We are the sons and daughters of the beautiful southern village of Deirmimas living abroad and in Lebanon. Our love and gratitude for Deirmimas has brought us together to form the Deirmimas Benevolent Association (DMBA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to address Deirmimas' current needs and support projects to sustain its future. Mission StatementThe Mission of the Deirmimas Benevolent Association is to help preserve, protect, and enhance the lives of the people of Deirmimas, a village in Southern Lebanon, through charitable donations directed towards improving the health of its people and the region; facilitating the education and social life of its residents; and offering assistance in the betterment of its infrastructure and environment.
Our immediate goals include:
OUR APPEAL Dear Friends, We are writing to bring your attention to a cause that is close to our hearts – our beloved village of Deirmimas. The Deirmimas Benevolent Association (DMBA), a non-profit organization, has been established with the objective of “preserving, protecting, and enhancing the lives of the people of Deirmimas.” We are reaching out to generous individuals like you and organizations to seek support for Deirmimas. DMBA has received approval from the IRS for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Deirmimas is facing unprecedented challenges. The recent military activities and related security threats in southern Lebanon have displaced the overwhelming majority of its residents from their homes seeking shelter and safety elsewhere in Lebanon. The village farmers will not be able to harvest their olives and produce olive oil due to security threats that prevent them from accessing their orchards. Moreover, the deteriorating economic conditions in Lebanon have left many families struggling to make ends meet. The banking crisis has led to people losing their life’s savings and causing immense hardship. Considering these dire circumstances, DMBA is committed to making a difference in the lives of the people affected by these challenges. Our immediate goals include (i) sheltering and supporting the displaced and the homeless who were forced to leave their homes (ii) providing essential healthcare services and medication needs, (iii) supporting the 24-hour security patrol to protect properties, (iv) ensuring availability of electricity through maintenance and fueling of an electric generator, and (v) financially supporting a home-grown "Meals on Wheels" effort to prepare and distribute food to affected families. We are actively seeking donations to continue our initiatives and make an immediate impact on the lives of the people in Deirmimas. There are several ways you can donate (see DONATE menu). Whichever method you choose, we manage donations and wire them to a charitable account in Lebanon, overseen by our co-treasurer in Deirmimas who will diligently manage the account and disburse funds according to the guidance of the DMBA Board, providing detailed reports on the allocation of funds. This method has been successfully utilized by several board members who have already contributed to Deirmimas. Your contribution, no matter how small, will go a long way in providing vital assistance. We are immensely grateful for your consideration and support. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people of Deirmimas. If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact any of us. Thank you for your time, attention, and compassion. We look forward to your positive response and partnership in this noble endeavor. Warm regards, DMBA Board of Directors Deirmimas (also spelled Deir Mimas, Deir Mamas, and Deir Mimmas) (دير ميماس) is a town 88 km south of Beirut in Lebanon. Named in honor of Saint Mamas, the town overlooks the Litani River and the medieval Beaufort Castle to the west and the snow-capped summits of Mount Hermon to the east. Deirmimas is emblematic of it's ancient olive trees, which date back hundreds of years. Three olive oil press facilities are available providing their services to olive farmers from Deirmimas and surrounding villages. Olive oil produced in Deirmimas is known to be as one of the best in the world. |
